Irish Wolfhound
Irishwolfhound - as with all breeds do your homework- find a good breeder and ask to see that all required health checks are completed before mating, ie heart testing and liver shunt test on pups are done.
They grow very quickly and require limited exercise as pups and into early adult hood.
Like all large breeds a 7 month old pup might look fully grown but they are goofy teenagers so they can appear boisterous and can easily injure themselves so careful observation and as with all dogs positive force free guidance .
Their life span is not the same smaller dogs and what ever the vet bill and dog insurance is triple it for a larger breed .
Heart disease and Osteosarcoma are health problems within the breed and pneumonia is easily misdiagnosed and bloat can be an issue so when looking for a vet look for experience with this or download the pneumonia protocol and forward on to them.
Fortunately there is a discounted heart testing scheme the Irishwolfhound health group offer yearly.
I have been very fortunate to have 24hour back up from the breeder of my babies in the past , wether it be health, diet or grooming tips and it continues to this day.
Gracie is my third wolfhound so I'm a relative newbie to the breed.
Duchess was a therapy dog with Caring canines and Blu was the most lovable scallywag ever.
You never own an Irishwolfhound, they own you ....
