A guide on finding a trainer or Behaviourist:

This is Rosie our stooge dog on the left at our Stress Free Meet-Ups

Due to the training and behaviour industry being unregulated. We don’t feel that social media is the place to get a recommendation for a face-to-face trainer/behaviourist since there is no regulation or guidance over who is being recommended.

We as Dog Friendly Dorset  group provide a private and safe space in our sister group Stress Free Dog Club. A place for online support for your behaviour and training needs with a selection of Behaviourists with minimum (level 6) BSc in Animal Behavioural Science as well as veterinary professionals. You are invited to join here: Stress Free Dog Club

For face-to-face support: we can tell you that ActivDogs Behaviourist Steven Symonds runs our Stress Free Meet-Ups for us. He is the renowned behaviourist for Dorset. We suggest that you can also google for an association representing dog trainers or behaviourists to find someone local to you. Key things to watch out for or to ask is whether a trainer uses prong or e-collars which are punishment training methods. We would not allow any trainers who use these methods to promote themselves on our group as it goes against our ethos and the welfare of dogs.

Many people don’t know that you can possibly cover your dog’s behaviour costs on your insurance and through a vet referral. So please do look into that as something that can help.
