Help save Nicky’s Life - Support Her Cancer Treatment
Nicky (along with her beloved dog, Merlin) is the Founder and Ambassador of our non-profit, Dog Friendly Dorset constituted group, and Merlin’s Pet Food Banks.
In February 2025, after more than a year of suffering and several misdiagnoses, Nicky was diagnosed with Stage 3 lung cancer. She is a non-smoker, and her cancer is an extremely rare form of NSCLC squamous with an EGFR exon 19 deletion mutation.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, the first campaign funded initial vital private oncology treatment that has helped bring Nicky to a stable position. Every donation has made a real and meaningful difference.
We are now launching a second, more focused appeal to raise £8,000 to cover immediate private medical bills over the next six months. This smaller target reflects Nicky's most urgent needs and allows us to focus on maintaining the progress that has already been achieved.
Maintaining this stability is absolutely critical. It not only helps preserve Nicky's quality of life, but the longer she remains stable, the better her overall chance of long-term survival.
FAQ: Why is private funding needed? The NHS currently only offers a palliative treatment pathway for this type of cancer. A potentially curative treatment pathway, informed by clinical trials, is not yet funded by NICE. As a result, access to this approach is currently only available through privately funded oncology.
Your support helps keep Nicky where she belongs — with her beloved dog, Merlin, with the family and friends who love her, and continuing to support the animals and people through the community she created.
We will provide an update by January 2027, or sooner if Nicky's medical circumstances change and further treatment becomes necessary.
This support is giving Nicky the chance to keep going.
Please help if you can — by donating, sharing this appeal, organising fundraising events, or simply helping us spread the word. Every act of kindness makes a difference. email to support with fundraising efforts
Thanks to your support so far, we surpassed 50% of the original £80K goal. Now, we urgently need to raise £8,000 for immediate oncology treatment costs over the next six months. Maintaining this stability is critical—not just for quality of life, but because the longer Nicky stays stable, the better her overall chance of survival. Your help now makes all the difference.
Through her work with Dog Friendly Dorset , Nicky has helped countless dogs and pet owners, keeping pets out of rescue centres and supporting families during difficult times. Her compassion and tireless dedication have made a real impact in our community.

Nicky’s biggest role in life is being mum to Merlin, her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
She is determined to fulfil her motherly duties and be there for him and she wants to live life for herself and be healthy and strong and to continue to be of service to animals and humans.
Together, Nicky and Merlin have built a community of 31,000 members at Dog Friendly Dorset with the sole purpose to help dogs and animals. And evolving this community into a non-profit organisation 3 years ago - making a lasting impact.
Any funds held by Dog Friendly Dorset Constituted Group are separate to the Pet Food Banks fundraising.

Nicky has done cold water sea swimming for 3 years to raise funds for our Pet Food Banks along with organising many other fundraisers, events and personal involvement, rolling up her sleeves, to set-up the Pet Food Banks. She has made contacts and networks and built a team of exceptional volunteers to make this all possible.
