WHAT TO DO WHEN DOG’S GET FRIGHTENED

TIPS TO HELP DOGS COPE WITH TRICK OR TREAT NIGHT

Not everyone loves halloween. Some humans and dogs do and some don’t…

We’ve had some great tips from the Dog Friendly Dorset Facebook Community on how to help your dog.

  1. There is a great free poster you can download from the police follow this link to tell people not to knock on your door

  2. You can dismantle your doorbell

  3. You can put a sign with an arrow to the flat upstairs (this was my trick one year) to divert traffic

  4. Pop the tele on quite loud or play classical or calming music for your dogs. There are also Dog Calm tracks

  5. Practice the doorbell in the weeks ahead of time where you calm and keep your dog in a distant room from the front door

  6. Thundercoats or Adaptil collar/plug-in to help calm. There are also calming remedies

  7. Zoopharmacognosy natural remedies for anxious dogs - you can book an appointment by filling in this form

  8. Build you dog a den (more on this in our fireworks hacks read here

  9. Draw the curtains/blinds, turn off the lights (or at least the ones at the front of the house). If it looks like no-one is home there is less chance of people knocking or ringing the bell. From Samantha and Johnny on our group
