An Introduction
The Moon has always fascinated me. Perhaps because I am a Cancer Sun and feel ruled by the moon or because my natal moon is in Gemini the place of greatest curiosity with wonder and with reading all about her.
Our connection with dogs and animals can also be traced by the moon and how a full moon can lead to acts of “lunacy” just as our animals in the wild feel unnerved by the exposure of the brightness of a full moon. Showing vulnerability. Dogs howling at the moon is a common occurrence. For prey animals the veil of blackness is stripped away and there is nowhere to hide or avoid what is out there in the night.
Scientifically we know a few things about the moon. Her pull on the tides of the ocean, her phases, how she travels across the sky. We also know we as humans are made up of over 70% water and there is no giant leap to realise her inevitable pull on ourselves. Jung wrote about this connection with the moon and dream time and the subconscious.
The moon nurtures us, she can help us feel safe as well as exposed, she is the archetype of the Mother and her day of the week is Lundi / Monday. Our moon’s day.
The moon is full every month, sometimes twice in a month called a Blue Moon. She is associated with different animals at different times of the year and we can track her through the constellations.
I would download a lunar app like iLuna to track her cycle.
On our private facebook group I also write and track the moon for us at Journeying with the Moon group. Please do join us.
