Magic Making and Munay

Munay…
Munay is the indigenous word for “love and will”. One word for what we separate in our culture as two different concepts. There is love and then there is your will. Not so in the Andean culture. Your love is your will and therefore all actions come from the heart.
Imagine that…
In the West and magic lore, we often talk about Setting Intentions or Wish making at the time of the New Moon. I feel this language can miss the mark…
It misses out on two secret ingredients that are shared by Indigenous peoples.
Belief and Munay.
Writing our wishes and intentions on a piece of paper and releasing them is a beautiful practice to do. And it definitely forms part of the ritual.
There is, however, a secret ingredient that powers the wish and belief that binds it.
Listen to my Guided Ritual below x
A wish can be anything as long as you believe it can be yours. The charge within belief is the magic that binds it.
Forming your wishes is like blowing up a balloon filled with intention. However, if you do not truly believe you can have those wishes, the air is deflated and the balloon sags. Doubt has loosened the knot.
When you believe you can have the wish, this belief, ties a very powerful knot and binds your intention with magic.
Next, what powers your balloon to reach the heavens is what you have breathed into that wish. This is Munay. This is the directed love and will that fuels your wish and connects you into the loving munay of nature who receives and answers back.
Set aside some precious time for yourself during the New Moon to open up to your intentions. If you find that your brow furrows or you feel any tension, listen to my Balsamic Moon Meditation to release any pressure and let go of the need to take action. Aligning yourself to receive rather than “do” anything.
As you sit and meditate, perhaps you have your journal or a notepad and pen to write out your wishes. It may be 1 wish or 3. In other rituals there are up to 10 wishes! 1 wish or 3 sounds magical to me.
When your wish forms, allow space for any doubt to rise up. Acknowledge and release this doubt, worry, anxiety and heavy energy into the ritual. It is by working through the obstacles that we untangle ourselves from them.
For instance, you may be wishing or calling in your soulmate…
Doubts may raise up such as, do I deserve such happiness, am I worthy, am I good enough? Release these onto the page or into the magical space you have created. Allow Mother Earth to take these from you and compost them. Listen to the Balsamic Meditation to fully release to her.
Now ask yourself whether you believe your wish can be answered. Write out what you are grateful for about yourself. Your gifts and what you can offer to another. Once you believe your wish will be answered, blow in this intention into a shell, a seed, a leaf, or onto a page that you will burn or bury or release to the waters, blow in your will aligned with love into your wishes to power them across to be answered.
If you do not know what you want. Pull an oracle card or a tarot spread to ask for guidance. Consult the i Ching or other divination tools. Or ask on our facebook group for someone with cards to pull something for you. We are here to support each other x
Timing:
When you make your wishes ask yourself whether you believe your wish can be answered by the next full moon. Or is it a longer term wish that can be fulfilled by the full moon 6 months hence? You will get a yes feeling in your body to guide you.
Setting short-term wishes? Check back at the Full moon and reflect on what has happened over the last two weeks. Or for longer-term wishes you may want to reflect back when that New Moon reaches its fullness 6 months later in the same sign. For example, this New Moon in Pisces 13th March will be a Full Moon in Pisces on the 20th September, 6 months from now.
